Anna Castelli Ferrieri
Anna Castelli Ferrieri

A trailblazer for women, particulalry in the fields of architecture and design, Anna Castelli Ferrieri (1918–2006) created innovative designs for Kartell, the furniture company she co-founded with her husband Giulio Castelli. There she conceived elegant and functional designs out of plastic—a material that was rarely used for furniture during that time, in the 1960s. In 1982, she designed the first table made entirely of injection-molded plastic. Ferrieri also created more than 50 architectural projects, including the Kartell headquarters (using bright red bricks) and several offices and factories in Alfa Romeo.
