Otani, a Japanese textile designer who graduated with an MA in Constructed Textiles from London's Royal College of Art, has work in MoMA's collection. The design, Brickyard (1997), is a knitted-nylon fabric that was inspired by stacks of freshly fired bricks. The tiny "bricks" remain in relief even when the cloth is stretched. This textile was featured in MoMA's 1998 exhibition Structure and Surface: Contemporary Japanese Textiles.
