MoMA Exclusive: Here’s a fun and stylish way to pay homage to Keith Haring personal style. These limited-edition sunglasses with tinted lenses were inspired by the glasses Haring frequently wore as well as the vibrant colors of Club 57, a center of creative activity in downtown NYC where he was an exhibition organizer. The countercultural venue is said to have influenced virtually every club that came in its wake and was celebrated by the 2018 MoMA exhibition Club 57: Film, Performance, and Art in the East Village, 1978–1983. When it comes to this pair, it’s all in the details: the distinctive temple tips nod to Haring’s line drawings while his iconic barking dog motif is debossed into the metal frames. Keith Haring’s work is represented in MoMA’s collection.

Why We Chose This
Keith Haring was a habitué of Club 57, a space located in the basement of a Polish church at 57 St. Mark's Place in the East Village in the late '70s and early '80s. Haring sometimes performed at the club, which was a magnet for downtown artists and musicians, such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, John Sex, Ann Magnuson and Sonic Youth. MoMA celebrated this highly influential scene with the 2018 exhibition Club 57: Film, Performance, and Art in the East Village, 1978–1983.
