“The bucket hat’s connotations are as varied as its adopters, in spite of its highly specific design and function,” writes Stephanie Kramer in the catalogue for MoMA’s 2017 exhibition Items: Is Fashion Modern?, which featured a Kangol bucket hat. “The bucket hat has…symbolized a certain subversive nonchalance linked with cultural rebels, such as the writer Hunter S.
