MoMA Exclusive: This MoMA NY Yankees Plaid Adjustable Baseball Cap was made in collaboration with New Era, a Buffalo-based brand which has been manufacturing hats for over a century. The adjustable Retro Crown 9FIFTY is a relaxed fit snapback style. It has a classic, comfortable shape featuring a tapered open back style with an adjustable closure. Our exclusive take on the beloved New York design features a plaid upper and a suede-like brim as well as embroidery of the Yankees and MoMA logos as well as “New York” on the back of the cap. A New Era baseball hat was featured in MoMA’s 2017 exhibition Items: Is Fashion Modern? and New Era caps are represented in the Museum’s collection. Why We Chose This
We launched the MoMA version of the NY Yankees Cap to coincide with the Museum’s 2017 exhibition Items: Is Fashion Modern?, which featured  baseball caps by New Era Cap Company. One of their wool and cotton caps that was designed in the 1950s is an object in MoMA's collection. Founded in 1920 in Buffalo, NY, New Era began supplying on-field caps to Major League Baseball teams in 1934 and is still the exclusive supplier for all 30 teams.
