Odita, who was born in Nigeria in 1966 and relocated to Columbus, Ohio, at six months old, is a renowned abstract painter known for his vibrant, large-scale works that explore color and cultural identity. Odita’s work is influenced by both African textiles and Western modernist traditions, creating dynamic patterns that reflect complex sociopolitical themes. Odili Donald Odita: Songs from Life is on view in the MoMA lobby through April 2026.
