Ruth Asawa (1926–2013) was a Japanese American artist, activist and educator known for her intricate wire sculptures that blend craft and fine art. During her years in San Francisco, Asawa created and installed several large scale sculptures in public spaces. An artist represented in MoMA's collection, Asawa's work is celebrated for its ethereal forms and lasting impact on public art and arts education. Ruth Asawa: A Retrospective is on view at MoMA through February 7, 2026.
