Teenage Engineering Choir Doll
Teenage Engineering Choir Doll
MoMA Exclusive: The company known for its powerful electronic synthesizers has just revealed a Teenage Engineering Choir—a set of eight uniquely handcrafted wooden dolls made to serenade you with a repertoire of choral classics, as well as perform your own original compositions through midi over BLE. (Each doll sold separately.)
The Choir features mezzo sopranos gisela and hatshepsut, leila as soprano, ivana sings alto, and olga a warm contralto. Then we have miki our soaring tenor, bogdan brings the bass and carlo sings in a bold baritone.
Choir comes pre-programmed with a collection of compositions that range from baroque to folk. Through BLE signals, each doll can detect its fellow choral members, communicating what and how to sing. Simply tap a doll on the head to start or stop the entire choir, and tilt any doll to adjust the volume.
Their built-in repertoire of songs has been created using an algorithm based on counterpoint melody, a compositional technique that refers to the independent but complementary relationship between two or more lines of melody played at the same time.
Based on cultures and characters from across the world, every doll is unique and has its own vocal tonality. You can pair one doll with up to 15 others; the more dolls you have in your choir, the more complex the performance. However, one or two dolls are also able to adapt their individual vocal range to provide a dynamic minimal performance.
The choir’s MIDI compatibility is where the magic really happens. Conduct your Choir with OP–1 field, OP–Z, or any MIDI keyboard with bluetooth connectivity, or connect ortho remote for wireless control. Connecting one doll pairs the entire Choir, who will instantly sing the notes in your composition. As with any live performance, each set will be a one-of-a-kind experience.
Each doll is sold separately, recommended to be used with at least two others. Since they are crafted from a natural material, the wood grain will differ on each and every doll, making each truly one of a kind.
Features of each Teenage Engineering Choir Doll:
- Bluetooth® BLE wireless connection
- USB-C charging and data connection
- 3-4 hours continuous singing time per doll, per charge
- Each doll can perform pre-composed music or be controlled by midi keyboard
- Dolls stay charged for 1 month while idle
- Can also be paired with the OP-1, OP–1 field, OP–Z, and any other midi keyboard (sold separately)
- Ortho remote pairing for start/stop and volume control
- Dolls range in height from 7.9 to 11.2”, and from 2 to 5.1” in diameter
- Each doll comes with a collection of compositions that range from baroque to folk:
“Love Me, and the World Is Mine” by Ernest Ball & Dave Read
“I Never Knew” by Tom Pitts, Raymore Egan & Roy Marsh
“Wilhelm Stenhammar” by Wilhelm Stenhammar
“Dear Old Girl” by Theodore Morse & Henry Buck
