Conceived by Danish designer Verner Panton in 1958, the Heart Cone Chair reimagines the classic wingback armchair through a bold, mid-century lens. Its dramatic, heart-shaped shell fans out into wide, supportive wings, balancing pop-art style with ergonomic relaxation. Crafted in Germany, it features a plush foam body set atop a smooth 360-degree swivel base. Both Verner Panton and the chair's manufacturer, Vitra, are represented in MoMA's collection.

Verner Panton

Known for his futuristic designs in a variety of materials, particularly plastic, Verner Panton (1926–1998) is considered one of Denmark's most influential designers of the last century. Although his designs for the home and office have a distinct 1960s style, they have attained a timeless appeal. His work in MoMA's collection includes the Stacking Side Chair (1959–1960), a gravity-defying design made from fiber-reinforced plastic. His furniture and lighting designs have appeared in exhibitions at the Museum, including Architecture and Design: Inaugural Installation (2004–2005).
